Fresh off May’s run of gritty Warhol portraits, artist Richard Garet’s Perceptual: Sonic Landscape/Midnight Blink will be shown on Times Square’s electronic billboards from 11:57 pm to midnight each night in June. The piece, an abstract visualization of sounds captured in Times Square across a multi-day period, is a part of Midnight Moment, a monthly presentation by The Times Square Advertising Coalition (TSAC) and Times Square Arts. Perceptual: Sonic Landscape/Midnight Blink transforms the frenzied sounds of Times Square into a lush, luminescent visual representation. Garet has left no audio in the piece, only a moving image signal that takes the viewer on an optical journey through the neighborhood’s soundscape.
